Abstract

5 dogs, starved for 14 h and anaesthetised, were given a infusion in the form of an emulsion prepared from 20% trinonanoate in 9°/00 NaCl containing 1% soya lecithins. The infusion of this fat causes an increase in triglycerides and plasma non-esterified fatty acids. The plasma ketone bodies increased by about 700% with an increase in the <i>β</i>-hydroxybutyrate/acetoacetate ratio. At the same time a hyperinsulinemia and a hypoglycemia were observed. The oxidation of nonanoic acid leads to an increase in lactate, pyruvate and in the lactate/pyruvate ratio in the plasma.
