Abstract Stable condensed monolayers of four different amphiphilic derivatives of β-cyclodextrin were formed on a water subphase. The base of the cylindrical cyclodextrin residue was found to be parallel to the water surface. Langmuir–Blodgett films were obtained for three derivatives.
