Double and single charge transfer from helium to fast alpha particles is investigated within the continuum distorted-wave (CDW) approximation. The effect of correlation in the helium atom is included explicitly using the CDW bound-state model of Pluvinage (1951) and the semiclassical independent-event model of the collision. Reduction in the total cross sections is appropriately enhanced by inclusion of explicit continuum-continuum coupling. The independent-electron approximation is successfully avoided.
