Abstract We report on a molecular beam experiment combining the methods of IR depletion and resonant twophoton ionization (R2PI) spectroscopy. Mixed molecular aggregates of fluorobenzene (FB) and methanol (MeOH), viz. (FB)(MeOH) and (FB)(MeOH) 2 , are characterized. After photoionization these clusters show size‐dependent reaction channels. By comparing our IR depletion spectra with those of free methanol aggregates an assignment of the neutral precursors is feasible. For the system in question, the (1:2) aggregate is identified as the neutral precursor for both, the fragmentation product (1:1) + and the reaction product anisole + .
