Abstract

The manufacture of a multifilamentary vanadium/gallium-copper composite and its subsequent heat treatment to form V3Ga is described. The growth of the V3Ga is discussed in terms of reaction time, temperature, and gallium concentration of the gallium-copper matrix. Superconducting transition temperatures and critical current densities are presented. Values of Jc, at 4.2 K and 80 kG, in excess of 5×105 A/cm2 were observed.
