As a major tourism destination, New Orleans has been under scrutiny because of its very high crime rate. Negative perceptions from potential tourists and meeting planners are threatening the well-being of a strong tourism sector. This article examines the crime and tourism situations and shows how various stakeholders have responded to the problem. An apparent lack of industry concern and cooperation is seen as the major drawback in tourism’s bout with crime and the resulting negative publicity.
