Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy has been employed for the spectroscopic study of a laser-produced Zn alloy plasma for the analysis of Al impurities in Zn alloy. The laser-produced Zn alloy plasma was generated by a pulsed Nd:YAG laser (105 mJ, 3 ns). The physical characteristics of the laser-produced Zn alloy plasmas and an optimum condition for the composition analysis are reported. With the use of the relative intensities of spectral emission lines from standard samples, calibration curves for the analysis of aluminum in Zn samples were obtained in the case of air, vacuum, and Ar environments.
