A simple but powerful extension of fluorescence scattering methods for the measurement of decay rates is described together with results of an experiment on a helium plasma. The technique should allow measurements of A-values and excitation rates for vacuum UV transitions from observations of visible fluorescence, and reduces the need for short pulse lasers for decay rate measurements.
