EXTRAMEDULLARY PLASMACYTOMA INVOLVING PHARYNX, SKIN AND LYMPH NODES

Abstract

EXTRAMEDULLARY plasma cell tumors are comparatively rare. Hellwig¹analyzed the literature from 1905 to 1942 and found 127 cases, to which he added another. Included in this review were only 2 cases²of plasma cell tumors of the skin. A patient with an unusual condition involving the skin, mucous membrane of the throat and the lymph nodes recently came under our observation. After much deliberation, it was concluded that these lesions represent a rare variant of plasma cell tumor. The case is described in some detail in the following paragraphs. <h3>REPORT OF A CASE</h3> A 53 year old Negro man was admitted to the medical service of Roper Hospital on Jan. 24, 1948, complaining of "lumps on my face and body" first noticed about one year ago.
