Scattering of 9.5-Mev Protons by Carbon and Oxygen

The elastic and inelastic scattering of 9.5-Mev protons by ${\mathrm{C}}^{12}$ and ${\mathrm{O}}^{16}$ nuclei has been studied by means of photographic plates. The 4.43-Mev state of ${\mathrm{C}}^{12}$, as well as the 6.05-, 6.13-, 6.9-, and 7.1-Mev states of ${\mathrm{O}}^{16}$ have been observed. The angular distribution of the protons elastically scattered by ${\mathrm{C}}^{12}$ and ${\mathrm{O}}^{16}$ has been determined and compared with Rutherford scattering. In the case of the protons inelastically scattered by ${\mathrm{C}}^{12}$, the angular distribution shows symmetry around 90\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}.
