Abstract

ABSTRACT Astress-day-index model was developed to relate sugarcane yield to stresses caused by excessive soil water conditions. Stress was quantified by the sum of excess water above the 45 cm depth, SEW45. Crop susceptibility factors were estimated for three stages of growth from published data from flooding studies. Relative yields from a four-year drainage experiment in Southeastern Louisiana were plotted as a function of calculated stress-day-index values. Additional data were obtained from published results on a controlled flooding experiment in Louisiana. A regression analysis of all the data resulted in YR = 100 - 0.03 SDIW, where YR is the relative yield and SDIW is the stress-day-index due to wet conditions.
