Abstract A new method is described for the qualitative separation and identification of fatty acids in the range C 1 to C 12 by paper chromatography of their anilides. The basic principles underlying this method are discussed. Use has been made of one of three closely related systems. The location of the spots is determined by means of ultra‐violet absorption measurements. The smallest amount of anilide which can be detected is about 1 μg.
