Abstract

A paramagnetic resonance absorption spectrum has been observed in the products of a radio frequency electrodeless discharge in fluorine gas. The spectrum consists of eight lines, widely spaced over a magnetic field range 2000-6000 gauss, which can be identified with $\ensuremath{\Delta}{M}_{F}=\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}1$ transitions in the ground $^{2}P_{\frac{3}{2}}$ level of the ${\mathrm{F}}^{19}$ atom. Analysis of the spectrum yields $\ensuremath{-}\frac{{g}_{J}(\mathrm{F}; ^{2}P_{\frac{3}{2}})}{{g}_{p}}=438.4839\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.0003$, $\ensuremath{\Delta}\ensuremath{\nu}(\mathrm{F}; ^{2}P_{\frac{3}{2}})=4020.01\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.02$ Mc/sec, $\ensuremath{-}\frac{{a}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}(\mathrm{F}; ^{2}P)}{h}=446\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}10$ Mc/sec, where ${a}^{\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}\ensuremath{'}}$ is the coupling constant of the off-diagonal hyperfine interaction in the $^{2}P$ term and ${g}_{p}$ is the $g$ factor of protons in a cylindrical sample of mineral oil.
