The HL‐A antigens of a number of cultured cell lines established from peripheral blood leucocytes have been determined over a period of months, and changes in the expression of these antigens noted. The HL‐A profile of some of the original donors of the cells could be studied and compared to those of the cultured cells: HL‐A antigens appeared and disappeared in culture. An additional property of the lymphoblastoid cells was noted in the cytotoxic effect of a number of HL‐A typing sera on such cells, irrespective of their HL‐A phenotype.
