Abstract This paper attempts to review the present status and offers a perspective on sorghum [ Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench] use and breeding in Europe. Topics such as botany, origin, utilization, agronomic performances and improvement of sorghum are discussed. Clearly, producers and users of sorghum should be more familiar with the crop so that they can take advantage of some of the unique characteristics that are associated with sorghum as it relates to Europe.
