Photodestruction of Hydrogen Molecules in H I Regions

Abstract

A photodestruction mechanism is found that gives a lifetime of 10i0 sec for Hi in H I regions of the interstellar medium. Coupled with production, this gives a mean density of 10- for H2 which is a factor of 10 less than that previously obtained.
