A titanium-containing polymer precursor was subjected to aqueous Ba(OH)2 solutions of concentration varying from 0.02 to 0.5 M and at temperatures from 65 to 200 °C under hydrothermal conditions. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) revealed the presence of cubic BaTiO3 in most of the products, as a result of the mineralization of the polymer. Nucleation of spindlelike BaTiO3 particles was observed on the polymer surface after reactions lasting 5 h. Sources of possible contamination with carbonates are discussed.
