Far-infrared transmission spectra through periodic arrays of quantum wires fabricated in modulation doped n -type GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures are explored theoretically. The spectra are calculated by taking into account the coupling between two laterally confined 2D plasmas and non-radiative components of the FIR electric field. The asymmetry of the two resonances appearing in the spectra observed by Demel et al . is ascribed to a difference of oscillator strength of two plasma modes and to attenuation of the amplitude of a non-radiative electric field.
