Abstract

The landscape of meeting management has shifted from being an informal and a fragmented profession to a more developed and connected one. This reformation is transforming the role of the meeting professional to include not only being a master logistician but also a meeting designer, creating experiences that drive business results. Academic programs must now align with the meeting and business event competencies standards and teach future professionals in this field ways to drive business results and change behaviors. This article discusses meeting management as a profession, a paradigm shift that requires academics to bridge the gap between higher education and the marketplace, and a number of opportunities for meeting and event management programs that align with this new approach.
