Among five pigments detected in bambara groundnut (Vigna subterranea), three major anthocyanins were isolated by combined column chromatography on Amberlite XAD-7, Sephadex LH-20, and RP-18 silica gel and by preparative thin-layer chromatography on silica gel. They were identified as delphinidin 3-O-β-glucoside, petunidin 3-O-β-glucoside, and malvidin 3-O-β-glucoside on the basis of chromatographic data and UV−vis, 1H-NMR, and mass spectrometry. Keywords: Vigna subterranea; Fabaceae; delphinidin; petunidin; malvidin; glucoside; 1H NMR
