Results of a combined experimental-theoretical study of the electronic structures and properties of epitaxial Fe on Cu(100) are reported. Angle-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy is used to determine the electronic structure of one, two, and four layers of epitaxial Fe on Cu(100). The experimentally determined two-dimensional energy bands of p(1\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}1) Fe mono and bilayers verify predictions of local spin-density full potential linearized augmented plane-wave calculations. Changes in electronic properties with coverage and the evolution of the bulk electronic structure of the substrate-stabilized fcc iron are described.
