A Novel Strategy for Two‐Photon Holographic Recording: Stepwise Two‐Photon Absorption of α‐Quinquethiophene Followed by Energy Transfer to an Aryl Azide

An efficient method for two-photon holographic recording is demonstrated. Two-photon absorption from gate and holographic lights is effected by silicon-terminated α-quinquethiophene, and data recording is achieved by a co- existing 3,3′-diazidodiphenyl sulfone (see figure). The efficiency of the thiophene–azide system is at least two orders of magnitude higher than that of a biacetyl-based system.
