Schulte, D. H. Abstract The Morgan-Meinel-Johnson method of spectral classification, using extremely low dispersion, has been extended for use with the Yerkes 24-inch reflector and a 621 -inch objective prism, giving a dispersion of 10000 A/mm. Several stars which are probably fainter members of known OB associations have been detected; in particular, an early-type star which is thought to contribute to the excitation of the emission nebula Messier 17 was discovered by this method. Observations of several of the stars in Humason and Zwicky's list of blue stars near the galactic pole reveal unique appearances of their spectra which may be useful in the further discovery of these objects. The feasibility of using this method on larger instruments, such as the 24-36-inch Schmidt cameras, is discussed.
