The peculiar separation of mass increase and morphogenesis in the Acrasieae has led to renewed interest by several workers, among them RaPer,1 2 Bonner,3 Gregg,4 and Sussman,5 all of whom have taken advan- tage of this fact. The remarkable life history is well given by Raper6 and by Bonnr.7 The present paper is the initial report of a program of studies on the influence of physicochemical factors in the morphogenesis of these organisms.
