Schmidt's functional equation determining the vibrational spectrum of a disordered, linear system is solved numerically for some chosen parameters. The resulting spectrum is found to agree very well with the corresponding spectrum obtained by Dean in 1960 but to differ appreciably from the results of the moment-trace method.
