Abstract

To measure the moisture content of grain, the equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) and temperature of the airenvironment in equilibrium with the grain were measured with temperature and humidity sensors. The humidity sensorreadings were transformed by a previously established calibration equation. The moisture content was calculated by theknown EMC model. Comparing calculated values with the moisture values determined by the oven drying method, the averagedeviations of calculated moisture content were within 1.0% for rough rice and corn kernels, excluding the RH range above85%. This technique could serve as a monitoring system for variations in temperature and moisture content of bulkstoredgrain.
