Recent interest in renewable resources has prompted many researchers to investigate the enzymatic hydrolysis of cellulose. Despite the efforts of these investigators, much of the mechanism for cellulose hydrolysis is still unclear. The complexity of the problem is, in a large part, due to the multiplicity of enzymes as well as the nature of the liquid-phase-catalyst, solidreactant system.
