57Fe Mossbauer spectroscopy and EXAFS results are compared for the amorphous and crystalline phases of FeZr2 and FeZr3. In these weak paramagnetic alloys, the EFG tensor component distributions at the 57Fe nucleus are elucidated using the magnetic perturbation technique of quadrupolar levels. The local coordination units in both amorphous FeZr2 and FeZr3 are concluded to be represented by randomly distorted trigonal prismatic units, which are also found in the orthorhombic FeZr3 and cubic FeZr2 crystalline phases.
