Abstract The arsenite (AsO2 ‐) sorption and desorption by three Spanish soils were investigated. An Elovich type equation and a modified Freundlich equation were used to describe the kinetics of arsenic [As (III)] sorption and desorption rates. In both cases, the Elovich equation proved to be superior when correlation coefficients were considered. Arsenic (III) sorption and desorption rate increases as the As concentration in the original solution increases. Arsenite sorption was reversible for the soils, initial concentrations, and reaction times used in this study.
