The high-power characteristics of the MU-type fibre-optic connector are investigated systematically for the first time. It is clarified that a connector with a low insertion loss of below 0.25 dB suppressed the undesirable temperature increase to less than 10° with an optical input of 1 W, and appropriate ferrule endface cleaning prevented endface damage.
