Studies on Coumarins, II⁶)

Abstract

Abstract 4‐(Bromomethyl)coumarins prepared by the reaction of phenols and 4‐(bromoethyl)acetoacetate were reacted with various phenols and thiophenol to yield 4‐(phenoxymethyl)‐ and 4‐(thiophenoxymethyl)coumarins. The spectral properties and the antimicrobial activities against five micro‐organisms are reported. Fragmentation of one of the ethers in the mass spectrometer is discussed.
