The unique information provided by radionuclide techniques allows the noninvasive characterization of primary tumors and tumor-like conditions of the liver. A thorough knowledge of the mechanisms of radiopharmaceutical localization and the histologic abnormalities present in each condition is required to optimally use these techniques. A review of this subject is presented.
