Abstract

The ordered mesoporous silicate MCM-48 has been produced from MCM-41 by a phase transformation method, which involves heating the silicate samples while they are still incompletely polymerized. Ethanol, produced by hydrolysis of the silicate source TEOS, plays a crucial role in the transformation process. In this report, we examine samples produced using various combinations of stirring and heating times with XRD and 29Si MAS NMR and draw conclusions regarding the reasons for the transformation.
