The Metabolism of l-Fucose

Abstract

Abstract l-Fucose kinase from extracts of pig liver has been purified 70-fold, with 14% recovery of the activity from the crude extract. The purified enzyme catalyzed the phosphorylation of l-fucose in the presence of ATP and Mg++. The purified enzyme has been used for the preparation of l-fucose 1-phosphate; the product was isolated and characterized as β-l-fucose 1-phosphate by chemical, spectral, and chromatographic analyses.
