The Treatment of Renal Failure.

Abstract

The author is a known authority on renal diseases and a pioneer in the field of kidney transplantation. This second edition of his monograph has kept the same general organization as the first and no attempt has been made to change the logical treatment of this controversial field. The treatment of renal failure has been comprehensively developed. After a short chapter dealing with the anatomy of the kidney, the accepted facts of renal physiology are outlined. The book also includes a section on functional adaptation to both acute and chronic renal failure. The clinical picture, diagnosis, treatment, and detailed techniques of peritoneal and hemodialysis, and permanent A-V fistulas are given. The chapter on transplantation is considerably expanded from the original edition in order to cope with the rapidly accumulating knowledge in this area.
