Abstract

Abstract An analysis of the first spectrum of copper is given which identifies in some detail all the predictable types of electron structure. The spectrum is unique in having many more identified levels above the point of easiest ionization than below. Auto-ionization is therefore the rule rather than the exception. There are a great many series converging to complex limits and showing various degrees of perturbation. The peculiar behaviour of some groups of series is described in detail.
