Solution and Adsorbed Fluometuron Concentration Distribution in a Water‐Saturated Soil: Experimental and Predicted Evaluation

Abstract A technique is described for measuring the solution and adsorbed phases of fluometeron in water‐saturated soil columns. The data reveal that at an average pore‐water velocity of 5.5 cm/hour, the solution and adsorbed phases of fluometuron are not in equilibrium, whereas, at the 0.59 cm/hour velocity they were in equilibrium. The kinetic rate equations for adsorption and desorption were not significantly better than the equilibrium model when describing the fast displacement of fluometuron through soils. The desorption distribution coefficient (θ k A ′/ρ k D ′) was found to be a function of the maximum amount of herbicide adsorbed prior to desorption. The experimental data were reasonably well described by the mathematical model.
