We present the experimental and theoretical spectra for photoemission from the 2 p - and 3 s -core levels in CrF 2 . By consistently analyzing both spectra, we show that the covalency effect in CrF 2 is fairly important, compared with MnF 2 and FeF 2 . This situation occurs as a result of the discontinuous change in the effective charge-transfer energy on going from CrF 2 to MnF 2 .
