Abstract

The outer portion of a plasma sprayed, metal film 50 μm thick has been fused by means of laser scanning. The porosity of the film is thus sealed while the high-power density and rapid quench rates characteristic of laser melting preclude solid solution or compound formation at the film-substrate interface. The corrosion resistant properties of metals such as titanium may thus be economically imparted to a variety of substrates.
