AbstractAbstractThis paper presents algorithms designed to generalize the buildings from Ordnance Survey base-scale data. The aim was to automatically create a representation that follows the style of the current 1:50 000 scale OS Landranger Map series. First, a data enhancement technique is described for distinguishing between dense conurbations and sparser rural settlements. Then two algorithms are detailed, which generate the different building representation styles found in urban and rural contexts. Finally, the experiments and results are presented.
