Super-Twisted-Nematic Liquid Crystal Displays with Multi-Domain Structures

Abstract

We have investigated the improvement of viewing characteristics super-twisted-nematic (STN) displays with multi-domain structures. An unconventional two-domain structure was found to present the best horizontal viewing angle for a STN liquid crystal display. The viewing characteristics of this STN-LCD are compared to those of STN-LCDs using other possible two-domain structures. The advantages and disadvantages of using four-domain structures for STN-LCDs are also presented and discussed.
