Some aspects of the biology of<i>Chrysococcus diaphanus</i>in Abbot's pond, somerset

Abstract

The taxonomic position of a phytoplanktonic species Chrysococcus diaphanus Skuja is discussed, together with aspects of its ecology. Growth of the population during autumn was probably limited by a low level of phosphate. The organism also exhibited phototaxy under conditions of slight turbulence in the water column, but not when vigorous circulation was taking place.
