An x-ray schlieren method is proposed for monitoring shell targets used in laser thermonuclear fusion experiments. This method is based on a two-crystal diffractometer. Magnified one-dimensional photographs of shell targets obtained by this method demonstrate the possibility of determining shell thicknesses of ≥3μ with an accuracy of ±0.15μ.
