Antagonism of Spironolactone-Induced Natriuresis by Aspirin in Man

Abstract

THE observation that aspirin interferes with the diuretic effect of spironolactone was first made by Elliott1 in 1962. Although he reported that aspirin was a spironolactone antagonist in man he did not document the extent of this potentially important drug interaction. We have studied normal volunteer subjects to confirm and extend Elliott's observations.MethodsThe experimental subjects were 10 healthy male physicians 30 to 35 years of age (median, 31 years).
