Abstract

Reluctance machines with three-phase stator windings and damperless rotors are usually operated in a closed-loop rotor-oriented control. The necessary position encoder reduces robustness considerably. In order to replace this sensor by a position-detecting algorithm based on electrical measurements, two methods are presented, well-suited to low velocity (INFORM model) and high velocity (EMF model), respectively. Based on this information, a Kalman filter yields estimates of the machine state. A rotor-oriented controller enables highly dynamic operation even at standstill.
