Development of a Methanol SOFC APU Demonstration System

Abstract

In mid 2007 it was decided to develop a SOFC APU demonstration system in the power range of 7 kWel and fuelled by methanol. Target application of the system should be an APU on board of ships. The main development goals were: • demonstration of fully automated and transient operation • electrical efficiency > 40% • thermally integrated in a gas-tight box • start-up time below 1 hour • project duration 8 months
