Cattle droppings exposed to insect activity for 5 minutes produced significantly greater numbers of Haematobia irritans (L.) than droppings exposed for 30 minutes or for 2, 4, 6, or 24 hours. There was a significant negative correlation (r = −0.9*) between the mean numbers of horn flies and the mean numbers of insects of other species produced per dropping during the 6 time intervals studied.
