The relationship between a recently developed kinetic theory and a Green's-function approach with respect to the electron shift and broadening of spectral lines is investigated. With the use of a set of approximations common to line-shape theory, it is shown that the two different theoretical approaches lead to identical expressions. The comparison is restricted to neutral radiators.
