Abstract

Using reverse micelles as reaction vessels, it is possible to synthesize iron nanoparticles that are coated with a native oxide shell. The nanoparticles presented here consist of a metallic iron glass surrounded by a disordered oxide shell. This shell protects the metallic core from oxidation for at least 6 weeks.
