HMW-KGN bears antigenic determinants shared by LMW-KGN, but also has antigenic properties unique to HMW-KGN. An antiserum which reacted only with HMW-KGN was prepared by exhaustive adsorption of antiserum to both HMW-KGN and LMW-KGN with a preparation of LMW-KGN. Using such an antiserum, HMW-KGN can be quantified by a hemagglutination inhibition assay.
